There are many ways to prevent drug use and addiction. Prevention uses many approaches at national, local, family, and personal levels. Risk factors for drug use and addiction include genetics, environment, attitudes, and behaviors. Each risk factor will have a different effect on different people depending on their age, gender, ethnicity, culture, or environment. Risk factors can increase the likelihood of drug abuse while protective factors can reduce drug abuse.
